A Complete Unknown, Bob Dylan’s next biography, has been on the schedule for quite some time. The wait appears to be coming to an end, with manufacturing expected to begin this summer in August. Even though filming has begun, it may be some time before the biopic hits theaters.
Timothée Chalamet has been cast in the role of Bob Dylan in the film. Director James Mangold confirmed to Collider that Chalamet would be performing as Dylan in A Complete Unknown: “It’s such an incredible time in American culture, and the story of a young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan arriving in New York with, like, two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years — first being embraced into the family of folk music in New York and then, of course, kind of outrunning them at a certain point as his star rises so beyond belief.” It’s a fascinating true story about a fascinating period in American history.”
Monica Barbaro has been cast in the biopic as Joan Baez, who was formerly in a relationship with Dylan. The couple split abruptly, but they wrote love songs for each other in the years that followed, including Dylan’s Love Is Just a Four-Letter Word and Joan Baez’s Diamonds And Rust. According to Deadline, Elle Fanning will also be in the cast. She will play Slyvie Russo, Dylan’s early 1960s girlfriend and an artist. Pete Seeger will be played by Benedict Cumberbatch. At the Cannes Film Festival afterparty, the director confirmed the actor’s casting to Deadline. The GQ article may be found by clicking here.
