Rocky Balboa and Sylvester Stallone were made to be together. The Italian Stallion moniker was given to the Hollywood celebrity because of the legendary role he portrayed in the enduring Rocky movie series. Stallone became identified with the boxing hero who inspired generations of people with his fervor inside the ring over the course of five films between 1976 and 1990.

The actor, who also penned the screenplay for the movies, joined a select group of celebrities who were nominated for Best Actor and Best Screenplay Oscars in the same year. Rocky Balboa was revived in 2006 as part of the Creed television series, which starred Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in his iconic role. This was made possible by the cult appeal of Rocky. Despite serving as the face of one of the most enduring series, Stallone acknowledged that he wasn’t always considered the ideal Rocky Balboa.

Nobody else but Sylvester Stallone can be imagined playing the role of Rocky Balboa. The action star’s classic portrayal of an ardent boxing hero inspired a generation of spectators. Although Stallone wrote the storyline and created the characters for the movie, he admitted that he never thought of himself as the title character. In a frank interview with Stephen Colbert, the Rambo actor said that his concerns about his physical looks prevented him from portraying the role. The actor also considered the perspectives of his rivals and asked them what they may think if he challenged Rocky Balboa.

The Creed actor continued by saying that he would have thought it was a poor decision to play himself in the movie and that he felt tremendously lucky to have been given the opportunity to play the famous fictional boxer in several different movies.

A Partnership for the Records. The Rocky franchise is well known to have been created by Sylvester Stallone, who wrote the original screenplay for the first movie in just three days after witnessing a boxing battle between Chuck Wepner and Muhammad Ali. One of the best sports movies ever made, the movie went on to win numerous Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. After the success of Rocky, Stallone continued to write and direct five additional films between 1979 and 2006. The Creed series, starring Michael B. Jordan, was later inspired by these movies. After receiving nominations for Best Screenplay and Best Actor in a Leading Role for the first movie, the hero of The Expendables received his third Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category. One of Hollywood’s highest-grossing movie franchises, the Rocky franchise has enjoyed over four decades of popularity and has collected worldwide revenues of $1.7 billion.
