Additionally, they performed Lambert’s song “Kerosene” in Nashville. This past weekend, at Miranda Lambert’s Nashville concert, Avril Lavigne performed “Sk8er Boi” with her. Watch the performance here. The Friday, June 9 concert took place at CMA Fest, a festival put on by the Country Music Association, which also hosts the CMA Awards. It happened at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.
Leon Bridges, Elle King, and Avril Lavigne all performed with Lambert during her brief seven-song set before Lavigne was her third and last guest. Before playing a cover of “Sk8er Boi,” the duo raced through Lambert’s smash song “Kerosene.” Below is video of both performances.
I’m A Mess, a new joint duet by Lavigne and Yungblud, was released in late 2017. She signed to Travis Barker of Blink-182’s label DTA Records, and in February 2022, she released her most recent solo album, titled “Love Sux.” According to NME’s three-star review, “Love Sux’ is an unapologetically brash explosion of self-empowerment, from the ‘Sk8r Boi’ referencing ‘Bois Lie’ to the growling ‘Bite Me’.
In contrast to her cathartic, emotionally charged pop-facing 2019 album “Head Above The Water,” “Love Sux” explores shady relationships and the thrill of a first kiss. ‘Kiss Me Like The World Is Ending’ is a joyful, frantic hymn, while the album’s title track is dripping with attitude. Avalanche finds Lavigne, now 37, just as lost as she was on her 2002 breakthrough song “Complicated” (“I wish my life came with directions,” she laments on the new song), but with a gorgeous, synth-driven breakdown, she’s considerably more confident here.”
